That's What I'm Talking About

Well, Obama took it! Was there ever any doubt/ Well, of course there was. i won't get into all of the black/white issues. Nor will I delve into the politics of it all. All I will say is congrats to the man; he is now officially the first. The first black man to officially become a true forerunner for the office of Presidency. Say what you want, but that is no small accomplishment for a black man in this world shrouded in racial overtones.
Thank you, Obama, for being the first. And thank you world for helping him make that jump. You see, even though I make the snide comment about living in a world shrouded in racism, I know that the black vote alone did not put Senator Obama over the top. hell no. It was Oprah! (joke) Seriously, I applaud American for opening their hearts and minds to the idea of a black candidate.
Now the fun truly begins. Now people's real feelings about having a black man up for the Commander and Chief will truly begin to shine and the haters will emerge. And don't think for a second that the haters of which I speak will be all white, because we know that shit ain't true. They will come in all shades, sexes and IQ levels, and yest there will be black haters. Black on Black hate, you gotta love that.
Do I think Obama is the right man for the job? Hell, how the fuck am I suppose to know the answer to that question? You never know who is the right person for the job until they take their place behind the desk and start making things happen; or fucking things up, as the case maybe. Hell, people thought George W. Was the right man for the job at one point. So much so that they voted his ass in twice! And we all have bore witness to the bang up job he did.
Of course, Americans are a fickle bunch, so you never know what will piss them off and cause them to turn on you. I should know...I'm an American. An American who just so happens to be black. But black aside, i truly do want the best person for the job up in there. I don't give a damn about experience. Hell, some of the most experience people can be the biggest fuck ups. I want someone who will actually go in there in make a difference to better this fucking world we live in. Someone who is not in it for the Republicans or the Democrats. I hate that division. Fuck that! Can you get our troops back home safely? Can you get the price of gas to stop going up every other fucking day? Can you get the members of Congress and the Senate to stop upping their own pay, while the common man struggles to make it day to day? I honestly don't care about their race, age or gender.
However, as a black man I would be remiss if I did not stand up and applaud, do a somersault out in the streets, pull out my tinkle and give it a little smile; something to show that I am proud that someone who looks like me made it through. Made it Over. Landed on Plymouth rock! However the fuck you want to say it the man has done what no other man of his race has done before. And the first person to say, "Well, he's only half black" can kiss my half ashy ass! That ain' t the point, damn it!
Er, I guess I lied about not getting into the whole black and white thing, huh. Oh well, this is my blog and I say what I want. Now the comment page is all yours. There you can say what you want.
-One Man's Opinion. Peace.
Say a prayer for Obama and his lot (those of you who do pray). Even though he took on this journey knowing full well all of the possible consequences that lay ahead for him and his family. I just pray for their safety throughout it all. I wish them well (Guess whose blog I stole that from).

I can't wait to tell my future kids about this some day. We have all experienced something that will forever live on in American history. I'm proud to be one of his supporters... and I'm proud that you're one of them too. ♥

This post makes me feel shallow and self centered for wallowing in my petty problems. It's just the reminder of the important times that we're in that I needed. I'm so excited and actually surprised that I've lived to see it. My babies get to witness all that's going on and I'm so excited for them too. Hater's or not, we gotta go through the growing pains to change. I will be praying for the safety of him and his family.

Okay, I think you may know where my support was but that's how we play in Jersey. I want to say congratulations loud and clear. The time for family infighting has ended and my support goes to the presumptive nominee who I always liked better than my candidate because of emotional and familial ties. Obama has a few policy aspects that I don't agree with but I can wait a few years for him to change his mind.

Like Torrence says now the work starts. We've still got to defeat that man calling for a hundred years war in Iraq. Otherwise this will all be just a footnote in history.

To criticize Obama is not to be a "hater," Brittany. It depends upon the NATURE of your criticism.

It is unrealistic to expect any President, black, white or otherwise, to make the situation in Iraq disappear overnight, gas prices magically go back to 1990 prices, or any other number of issues that Republicans OR Democrats want "their man" (or woman) to magically wave a wand and make go away.

It is also not "haterade" to ask Obama---or Clinton or McCain---how they intend to pay for all these wonderful "hopes" and promises they peddle to people.

All that to say, applaud the brother for making the nomination if you consider that some sort of "racial progress," but don't expect him to make good on campaign bullshit and promises any more than any other politician.

The only difference between a black politician and a white one, is that the white ones sunburn more easily (just ask John McMelanomaCain!) ...

like everyone else i am extremely happy for the man. i just hope that nothing happens if he is elected prez that would mess up his legacy.

but no need to worry about that until he is elected.

for now i too will do a backflip in the streets in celebration.

OBAMA! OBAMA! OBAMA!

You americans and your election circus! ;) It would have been a fun outcome anyway.. it was either a black man or a woman, I don't believe any of those two have ever ran for president before?

It is a milestone in history, 'though.. and with all the publicity them two have been getting.. I can hardly see a republican winning..

p.s. Don't worry about those gas prices.. just remember we are paying over $9,60 a gallon. I said NINE sixty. I'm not joking. NINE dollars and SIXTY cent for a gallon of regular gas. -- it's like 75% tax here.... So however it'll go up in the states, you're always paying less than half of what we have to pay....

Greetings from holland! (Do you understand why we ride our bikes so much now? *lol*)

'This is my blog, I'll say what i want'... You say it well too, bro!

I see Obama as someone who actually unites rather than divide. I like the fact that he already had a lot of white fans b4 black people even started to sit up and notice. Right now he's the only one for the job. I hope he gets it. He has a huge task in front of him if he does. Lets all do our best to support him... we blacks are not always good at supporting our own.

So we can't take the colour thing out of it. Like you said for us that's got to be a positive thing. A black brother becoming the president of America? Never thought I'll see it in my lifetime! To me this is even bigger than Mandela coming out of prison and becoming president of South Africa. I will do more than cartwheels. I will devote at least a week on my blog, a post each day to the jubilation, if this becomes real.

Some people (both black and white) may not realise the magnitude of this event if it does happen. 47 years ago when Obama was born, Black people could still not vote in some places, segregation still existed, lyching of black people was still going on...

As for the white people who see only the colour of his skin, or the black people who also deride his light skin, I feel nothing but pity for them. America needs to heal its bloody past in order to move forward. Obama is the beginning of that healing process.

I agree with you that it's a major accomplishment and a testament to a huge majority of Americans that they are ready for this wonderful man to take charge of the country!

i agree with Terrance now the works start, and also we have to get our black people to vote when election time comes.

I am excited to be a part of this history. It was one thing to know what I was doing at the exact moment I learned the World Trade Center had been hit with an airplane. It's another to know what I was doing when Obama won the Democratic nomination.

I can't wait to create the memory of him being the first BLACK man in the White House.

VOTE!

I hope we remember that it's not about Obama, it's about us. Americans. He can't do it alone. he's gonna need us to help, sacrafice, input, and have his back when he succeeds and when he makes a mistake. If he gets in he's taking us all with him and it's a big job. Barack has faith in Americans. We Are the best in the world. He's putting his trust in us as much as we are in him.
McCain, you are going Down!

Dreamy said...

Amen Jackie, I second that comment whole heartedly.

It is about us, and he needs our trust ,just as much as we need his.

i like him. always did. even moreso after i saw him speak in durham. i will be the first to say that i thought that the racial history of this country would preclude him from securing the democratic nomination. he did get the nomination, now let's hope he he is elected president. i'm behind him 100%.

This truly is fantastic and I think America is long overdue a black president, or a woman, but not Hillary( is she even a woman?)

I hope it will not lead to race riots, cuz there are a lot of pigs in the world.
