Failure to ID

I don’t understand grown ass folks who don’t carry identification. It wasn’t until I became a police officer that I became aware that folks don’t carry some type of identification. Can somebody please explain this shit to me? Two of the many things that my mom pounded into my head was that it was important to have at least get an identification card and to open up some type of saving account. Oh, and to always wear clean underwear encase you get into an accident. I solved that by not wearing underwear at all. Take that, mom!

Anyway….Yeah, seriously, why do people not carry identification? Is it that hard. They either don’t carry it or their wallet was just stolen or lost a couple of days ago and they have not had chance to replace it. Whatever, you better show me something. At least have a tattoo on your ass, with your name and address, so I can identify your ass just encase you get murdered.
If you get murdered and don’t have identification, are not driving your own car and not in an area that anybody knows you, how the heck do you expect me to know who your dumb ass is? How? Then your dumb ass ends up lying in the morgue as a John Doe, or Leroy Brown….I don’t care! It’s very inconsiderate.

Yes, this post has a meaning behind it. We had a homicide last night and of course I was the first one on scene. I even beat the paramedics to the scene and they are normally the first one there. The guy, who for some reason they thought was Hispanic, but I know my people when I see them, was slumped over face first in the passenger side of a pickup truck. You could see the two bullet holes that had went through the driver side window. Upon first glance you see no blood, but he is unresponsive so it is obvious that at least one of the shoots hit him. I move out of the way and let the paramedics do their job. As the left him out of the car the blood begins to flow from his nose and mouth. He is DRT (Dead Right There).

Pretty sad. They try to work on him, but let me know that is just their standard procedure but for the most part he is dead. As it turns out only one shot hit him, in the upper torso; still, it was enough to kill him. As of this moment we have no idea who he is and only a vague account of what occurred.

Anyway…carry some identification, people!

Hey, I never wear underwear either. And in the event that I'm wearing some while I'm in an accident, I'd probably shit or piss myself anyway, so that point is moot.

I always get scared when I leave the house w/o my wallet because I really don't want to be harrassed about not having an ID on me. I thought I was smart by photocopying my license and keeping it in the glove. I haven't had to use it yet, but it's there. Just in case.

Twin...how are u going to give a fake name, if ur carry ur real name ID??

How can someone lie out of getting arrested for a warrant, if they're carrying the correct ID?

How can they use their sibling, child, mama (fill in the blank here) if they're ID is telling the correct name?
duhhhhhhhh

check out my poem "Still he lied" in the spirit of Maya A "Still I Rise"

love u,
Brie :)
did I ever call u back???

He is DRT (Dead Right There)...hilarious.

All these years as a cop, you know exactly why folks don't carry ID. Cuz they don't want nobody knowing who they are when they are doing something they have NO business doing.

Hopefully, he wasn't so far out there that someone will report his tail missing and get some closure to that situation.

I'm sure you did the police work and tried to locate the owner of the truck, ran the tags, etc.

Yeah, I'd be guilty of that.... *lol* That's because usually I don't carry around anything.. I can't be bothered to carry a whole wallet around.. they heavy, man!

I just have a debit card, so I have some 'money' on hand.. hey, my name's on there.. There's only one family in entire holland with my last name.. does that count then? *lol*

But really.. they started this whole ID-policy a couple of years ago here, too.. if a policeman would stop me, I'd get a fine.. because I have no real ID on hand..

Man, I'd just lose it anyway.. it better be lying at home, where it's not going anywhere.. *lol*

Greetings from holland!

That's hella smart, nikki.

No, you never called me back, you big hater. Hey, I checked out faux maya angelou yesterday. Did not know that was you too.

Yeap, "I". The vehicle had buyers tags, and the vin only had the previous owners. But we have found out who the murder is...We good like that.

Linda, I like the idea of a fine for not carrying id. We need that here, damn it.

Well, I'm thinking that the people who don't carry ID are not inclined to want to be identified all that often! ;)

You know Justices Thomas, Alito and Scalia will say that no where in the Constitution is it written that citizens have the right to privacy, so they will probably back your thoughts. But I believe that it is implied throughout the document that privacy is fundamental right not to be infringed upon by the State . That means that as a citizen going about my business doing no wrong to anyone else I have right to walk about without being asked for papers like they did in Nazi Germany. It's sort of like you not carrying draws, your business and no one elses.

It's sad to say a lot of people don't carry any type of ID. I notice it mostly with young men here.

Not only do people need to carry ID, but they also need to put a please notify contact on their DL records. I know we can do this is Florida, and I suppose all states can do it.

well...i guess if ur wanted by the got-dang law being id'less is good (i mean for the perp, dang Sarge!) but when you're trying to ID a John/Jane Doe...it's not.

Yeah, I've watched a lot of cop shows :)

I see this on the First 48 all the time and they end spending the first 10 hours trying to figure out who the hell the victim is.

I swear I almost want to have a chip placed in me so that this never happens to me

just my luck the person who shoots me will rob me too or swap my id with someone else's so you cant figure out who i am anyway. does student id count too??

RealHustla said...

I'm guessing that people who probably have warrants and stuff want to try to increase their chances of being let go should they be stopped by the po-po. A stupid delay tactic. Guess they figure what does it matter if you're dead? At least they ain't in jail.

I'm guilty of doing this sometimes -- not carrying ID and not wearing underwear. lol.

My mama always told me not to go anywhere without an ID and some money. And now I couldn't imagine doing it.

I'm sure your mother is soooo proud that you gave up wearing underwear!!
I find that the majority of the fools not carrying id are the ones who are doing things they shouldn't be doing and if they get caught they are not even trying to give out their real names. But I'm sure you already knew that and your question is rhetorical...I hope!

I live in the UK, I don't routinely carry identification because I see no benefit to myself in doing so. I know who I am and I have little interest in having to prove who I am to some state employed jobsworth whose salary my taxes pay. If the police were to stop me then they are expected to have good lawful reason for doing so. If I not suspected of any offence then why should I be obliged to identify myself to them?

Presently in the UK our government is attempting to introduce a compulsory national identity card system, but all the other political parties are opposed and the Conservative party has promised to can the scheme if it elected. There is also vast public opposition; the government's own figures indicate that a third of the population would actively resist registration. Whether this is an attempt by our socialistic government to criminalise a significant proportion of the country, who can say, but you can take your socialistic ID Card and stow it where the sun don't shine!

Wow, stephen, I think that is probably the most foolish reason in the world not to carry id. If you choose not to carry identification that's on you, but please don't spout of rubbish about not doing it because some person whose salary you pay needs to know who you are. You are not the only person in the world that pays taxes. I'm glad you know who you are, that is all wonderful and good.

Carrying ID has little to do with law enforcement, if you are alive and kicking, I can find out who your are. Trust me. This is about if something happens to you, God forbid. How about it would be nice to be able to know who you are for your own personal safety, or so next of kin can be notified.

Wow, what a pompous ass you must be, but you comments are always welcome. Thank you, come again.

Hey onemansopinion, hey cop-you know why we dont have to carry an id as pedestrians? Because the law says we dont have to. Unless you have resonable suspicion, probable cause, or have determined that we witnessed a crime, you ARE NOT legally privalidged to make us disclose our id at your discretion. Unless you're willing to invent a scenario stating resonable suspicion/probable cause, then in that case, name and badge number for the misconduct report. Just so you know
