Love Happens

I don’t want my niece to get married! There, I said it!

This coming April, one of my four nieces are getting married and I don’t want it to happen. I have no reason why, except that I don’t want her to do it.

I love my niece and I am glad that she is doing it the right way. After all, she has known the guy since 2001 and they have been dating since high school; so it’s not like she is rushing into it. And I am very proud that this niece, along with the other three has broken the family/female cycle of getting pregnant in their teens. Still, I don’t want her to get married.

I’ve always known I didn’t want her to marry the dude, but today I looked at the web-site they have created to commiserate their love and it hit me even harder that I don’t want my niece to get married. I think it’s just me. I’m not big on marriage, I just don’t trust it. Plus, I think my niece can do better. How horrible is that? The guy is alright; a little childish, maybe, but so am I. Other than that he’s a stable young man. He has a job, is educated, and everything else and has already purchased them a house to live in once they tie the knot. He is everything a woman should want in a man. So, why don’t I like him?

Something about this man just does not sit well with me. I have no idea what it is. He has been apart of the family for over five years, coming to family gathering and stuff. Hell, I see him more than some of my blood nephews. Still, I don’t want the wedding to happen. I prefer that they wait, but they have waited far longer than most.

Anyway, it’s none of my business. I love my niece and I want her to be happy and she is happy with this boy, so what ever. My job is to take the damn pictures and mind my own business. Who am I to stand in the way, when love happens?
The UNCLE, that's who! LOL

-One Man’s Opinion. Peace.

Hmmm, "Let's all live under one roof."

Hmmm, "Neice, don't marry your long time love even though everything is being done in order and you seem happy."

Why am I suddenly sensing the presence of a person with control issues?

I have no reason why, except that I don’t want her to do it

That's is not a good enough reason. Like you said it's none of your business.

I do not have control issues....I just like everyone and everything to stay the same. I am the only one in the world allowed to grow older and change. Everything else needs to remain the same damn it!

I understand what you are saying completely. I have someone close to me, in my family that is getting married soon. For some reason I can't get happy for them. I'm happy that they are finally getting married, like they wanted, but I got my hang ups.

I have just chopped it up to me, not being big on marriage too. I tell people that i am, but I'm also that nigga, that be betting and taking a pool on how long the marriage will last.

I have been in a few weddings and for me the only up point is the reception and the wedding cake.

Aren't you a police man...have you done a full background check on the guy your niece is marrying.

Can't you do a stake out on him or something...hey maybe he's on the DL, maybe that's the thing that doesn't sit well with you.

Just smile, take the pictures, eat some cake and wait for the shit to hit the fan, when they get married.

lol... Your just realizing that she is growing up. Pretty soon she will be having babies!

Was your use of "commiserate" a freudian slip? :)

I respect that you're protective of your niece... I fear the wrath of my uncles upon whatever poor chap I marry.

One Man’s Opinion said...

Super Dave, I don't want her to have babies either. In my mind she is still a virgin. I think my nephews are still virgins too, although one lives with his girl and the other has gotten at least to girls pregnant.

Denial, what a wonderful place to live.

Figure it out One Man. Are you jealous and feeling old and ugly? Or is instinct kicking in and you're starting to sense "Danger Will Robinson!" And if you know where that reference came from, then maybe it is the old and ugly thing.

If not then maybe it's time for you to use the tools that you've been given and do a little Sherlock Holmes work like Y&B said.

Linda said...

the ghost of jealousy? hehe ;)

Why don't you believe in marriage? Marriage is great.. it's what all the cool people do.. *lol* No, honestly.. marriage IS all that.. trust me!

By the way.. it could be because I've been to Amsterdam TOOOO many times, but am I the only one who thinks that bouquet of flowers in your picture kinda looks like the guy's smoking mary jane?

Greetings from holland!

LOL. You are to much. Sweet though.

Be happy for them, One Man! It sounds like they've done everything right. And marriage is the best institution in which to raise children! As you well know, too many Americans, especially black Americans, are just spitting out babies right and left, with no daddy in the picture, mainly because the parents didn't get married first. So yeah! Your niece and her hubby will be a good example for others to follow.

Especially if you think she will be let down by him, you should allow her to chreish what happiness she can before paying any potential price. Then be there for her...gun at the ready.

My whole family never liked my uncle's wife, but could not put out finger on it. She proved us right, eventually.

Can't tell a girl to not marry someone she thinks she loves.

If it falls apart, just be there to pick up the pieces, without saying Ï told you so.

Good luck, Uncle!

I think the best you can do is support them since you do not have a good reason aganist their marriage.

My niece is getting married in May. She's known this guy for a long, long time. The family adores him. In fact, a more perfect man you cannot find.

Still, I'm never into anyone getting married.

There. I said it. ::)

Hey One Man....It is your business because sometimes men can see things that we women are BLIND to LOL. So let your niece know and what she does with the information that's up to her, but at least you did tell her!

Hi One Man! This comment isn't about your niece getting married, it's about what you said on my blog, regarding gardening. You said you wished you were better at gardening. My dear, all you have to do to be a good gardener is:
1. Prepare the soil. Spade it up, put some good organic fertilizer (composted animal poop) on it and mix it in good.
2. Buy some healthy bedding plants (if you don't want to start with seed).
3. Dig a little hole, insert plant, put some soil around it, pat it down and water it. Make sure it's in a sunny place, unless it's a shade-loving plant.
4. Keep it moist and watch it grow!

You mentioned roses. They're fussy little buggers, but if you follow the directions about planting, spraying and pruning, they're very rewarding.

Now go! Grow!

One man, whatever is nagging you about your "nephew" (I think that you may really know what it is if you go deep inside of your heart) :) A Leo's intuition can be right on the money. You should probably have a serious heart to heart with him. If you are right he will always know that Uncle One man is a few steps ahead of him and if you are wrong he will think that you are just a serious
"Nut Case" that he should always be afraid of... LOL No harm done either way.

Anyone who has a blog with the n-word in the title might have some self-love issues. People with self-love issues never believe in love. They don't like it for them or for others.

You've got to look deeply into your soul and root out your ideas of "black love isn't real or right" stuff. You need a lot more love in your self.

Sorry it had to be said.

hey.. where are you, honey?
