Chronicles of a Bad God-Father

Okay, this pasted weekend my little God-son turned a year old. Isn't he cute?
I took off work and took Manny to the party. When we first got there I saw this little boy, in the living room, he appeared to be about one, and he was the only little boy standing in the center of all the adults; so I just assumed he was my little God-son, so I took a few pictures. Imaging my surprise when Kale, my God-son, is brought out of the kitchen by his mother. What a sucky God-father I am. LOL
On the positive side, I did take off from work to go to the party. And, once I found out who the birthday boy was, I took a bunch of pictures. LOL. I'm really gonna try to do better. Once Kale is a couple of years older, I want him to join me and Manny on our Annual trips to Disney World (or where every I choose to take him on his birthday).
On that note, I am trying to plan a trip to Disney World with my little Nephew. There is just so much to consider, I am overwhelmed. Any helpful hints?
-One Man's Opinion. Peace.

Disney isn't difficult, just expensive... once you get there it's easy as pie.

We just went in 2007, what kind of questions do you have?

My advice? Know whose child you're taking dude. Make sure the child you're picking up is indeed your godson and not some kid who you think looked like or should be your godson!

LOL! You taking pictures and hugging that other kid. What if his mama had seen that and filed charges? After kicking you around the room.

That picture on my site is my niece Mona

I plan on taking my son to Disney World next yr before he starts kindergarten. I can't wait!

Now that's funny! How can you NOT know who your godson is. LOL
I took my annual vacation to Disney for about 15 years straight! If anyone tells me they've never been I TAKE THEM!
I LOVE IT! Takes about 2 or 3 days to see ALL of the magic kingdom. The parades are a highlight. A Must is the samll world ride. Its like a pilgrimage. Once you get the song in your head it's there! And you have to see the night parade with fireworks. Ride the monorail over and take the ferry back to your car. And if you can stay at the Beach and Yatch club. The pool there is fantastic! sandy bottom pool with a slide and whirlpool built in. I love it!
I like Epcot. But I am porbably the only person inmy family that does. But I am a social science buff.
Disney MGM is a half day thing. But if you can go when it's warm, go to Typhoon Lagoon, the water park. They have snorkeling and it's so much fun!
And if you can afford it, STAY IN the park and ride the bus.
Pleasure Island is fun if you can ditch the kids at night.
Have fun! Stop by JAX and pick me up. I WANNA GO!

Hmmm, are ya'll driving to Disney World or flying. If flying, try to get a non stop flight. If driving, try to pack easy access snacks, the kind you don't have to help them open.

Doesn't Disney offer all inclusive packages on their website? That should make life easier for you.

Make reservations for the "character" restaurants now. That was my big mistake, being indecisive and procrastinating. Therefore we didn't get the experience that you see on the commercials.

You at least should have known what your God Son looked like.

We flew into Tampa, picked up my girlfriend and drove over to Orlando. Once you get there, you do not need a car. So, if you are flying into Orlando (cause I don't see you driving with a child) there might be a Disney bus to pick you up or perhaps a cab that take you to your hotel.

We stayed at Coronado Springs resort, but there were less expensive options (like the All Star resorts). I'm a firm believer in spending the money and staying on the property so that you can just get up and go whenever you want.

With a little guy, you can pretty much skip Epcot.. there isn't much there for him to see/do.

I would do the Magic Kingdom, MGM and the Animal Park, and then a water park if you have an extra day. Otherwise there will be pools and such at the hotel.

Oh, if you go to the Disney website they have a trip planner that you can use to plan your trip by the age of the child. Then they will send you personalized maps in the mail (free!) Those were really cool for us.

Everywhere takes credit cards, but plan on spending a lot of money in the parks.. The average meals are $12 - $20 - or pack your lunch to save some $$. Do not do the all inclusive meal plan.. it's so not worth the cost. My son and I shared most meals.

Since my son was 11, we didn't do any of the character lunches. We did go to Downtown Disney (you have to see the Lego store) where we caught a Cirque De Soliel show - it was worth EVERY PENNY. But.. if he is still little when you go, you might want to save that for a different time.

Lines are long, so make sure you have a spare outfit for him every day in case of accidents.. they happen!

If you want more info on anything, let me know!

Sooooooo..... this is the REAL one, right? ;)

As for disney world.. just take the kid, bring some food and go.. *lol* People make it too much of a hassle to go out with kids, but they really don't need that much....

Greetings from the netherlands!

Aaaaaw he is adorable.

Just make sure you keep an eye on him while you guys vacation at Disney. It is so easy to be distracted or him being distracted.

I plump for taking them to Graceland!

That is too funny! I have to say when my god-son was that age though I didnt know who he was either. I never saw him.

Ah Disney, I'm planing on taking CJ when he turns 3, I wanted to take him for his bday because he can get in for free. I was advised that October was the best time to do it so I'm sticking with that.

All I can say is that you are doing a great service to your nephew and godson by being a caring, affectionate presence in their lives and by being such a terrific role model for them.

So is this Kale or the other kid? hee hee

That is FUNNY!

Hey, when I showed up at the hospital to see my second grandchild, I walked in and said, "I'm here to see my grandbaby." They said, "What is the mother's name?" I said, "Laura..... um... Laura........ I dunno her last name!"

Embarrassing.

They said, "What is your son's name?" I said, "Brady." They said, "Oh okay! He's right in there."

What.. they are on first name basis with Brady but not Laura? :)
