I am writing this with tears in my eyes. It is a privileged to be enlightened eventhough many of us don't want to hear the UGLY TRUTH--cuz it hurts. I'm glad that it hurts because this will propel me to handle my biz even more so by education. Educating myself, my son, my daughter, MY VILLAGE. And I can only pray One Man...that they hear the truth and they in turn reach one, and teach one. Thank you for having the COURAGE AND DECENCY TO SUPPORT DEDE HUNT..AND in essence (by your posting the video) your telling BLACK AMERICA TO WAKE THE HELL UP! I'm up. I'm up.

Im disgusted that she was treated in such a way and it makes me even angrier that what Dede says about a lot of other black sister's are out there today do this for the almighty dollar and not realizing how dehumanizing their behavior is.

It is a great understatement to refer to this video simply as powerful. I can understand your lost for words.
ReplyDeleteWhat gets me is that after the Civil War, leaders like Ida B. Wells, W.E.B. Dubois and others went high and beyond the the call to put women of African descent on a pedestal to refute the stereotypes of them as wanton creatures of lust to be devalued.
Leaders from yesterday are turning over in their graves and crying right now.
My aunt once made a disturbing comment. She said that she didn't think black men loved black women anymore. I didn't know how to reply. Looking at what is out there and the behavior of "some" brothers toward their sisters was bothersome. It IS bothersome.
As another poster said, thank you for having the courage to post this vid. Then, thank you for speaking your mind and challenging your readers to think period.
Thank all of you who took time out to actually look at the video. I know sometimes 4:56 minutes can seem like an eternity in this world of quick, fast in a hurry. Like I said, a friend of mine sent it to me and it made me both angry and sad at the same time. I have three sister and four nieces, the very thought of what happened to Sara Baartman and what it drove her to makes me my flesh burn. It was very hard to post it under the title of my blog, but I know the majority of you "get it" by now.
ReplyDeleteYou are right, Bronzebuckaroo, "powerful" was a very inadequate term to use. I apologize, but I was dumbfounded by the time I posted it.
On a whole different level, I must be true to purpose of my blog and continue call out both my brothers and my sisters on their stupidity, ignorance and so on. Please don’t label me a hypocrite for trying to enlightening through humor and sarcasm (and sometimes very hateful terminology), and please don’t burn me in effigy if I sometimes miss the mark. Know that everything I write and say is done out of love and frustration from the decisions that our people make.
I honor the memory of Sara Baartman and every other black man and woman that suffered the indignities of the white man so that we as a people may someday overcome (only to make ourselves minstrels, whores, slaves and chattel once more).

A few years ago, Barbara Chase-Riboud wrote a novel about her titles, Hottentot Venus. Chase-Riboud is well known for her historical fiction and she does her research! I highly recommend this book to anyone looking to learn more about this facinating woman.
